Kitsap Sailing Foundation is based at the Port of Silverdale on beautiful Dyes Inlet. Kitsap Sailing offers a variety of programs, including summer sailing camps for kids and teens. No prior experience is needed. Our sailing programs and summer camps provide Kitsap County youth and teens with hands-on learning, team-building experiences, STEM education, and fun outdoor memories.
Silverdale Summer Sailing Camps
Summer camps are daily and last for one week and are taught by certified sailing instructors and with volunteers from the High School Sailing Team. They will be offered this summer starting June 20, 2022. Youth camps ages 8-12 are from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM while teen camps for ages 13-18 are from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. More information can be found here.
Girls only sailing and stem camp is on the week of July 25-29. The camp runs from 9:30 to 4:00 pm with a section for youth and another for teens. More information can be found here.
High School Sailing Team(s)
New or experienced sailors in the Central Kitsap Area and from areas of Kitsap without a local sailing team are invited to join the High School Sailing Team with Fall and Spring sessions. Sailing team is a great program for Running Start students, and for home school or private school students as well. Our goal is to help provide near year-round sailing activities for middle and high school students to learn to sail and improve their sailing and leadership skills. Students compete in NW Interscholastic Sailing Association regattas but are not sponsored by CK school district.
Community Sailing Nights & Adult Sailing Lessons
Kitsap Sailing Foundation uses a variety of sailboats and strives to provide individuals and families to have a chance to learn to sail or get on the water with an experienced sailor during the summer. Requirements are being able to swim, have a life jacket and pay a small fee. Days and times are posted on community sailing page here.
Adult Lessons may be available using our fleet of V15s, FJs, Lasers, or our Geary 18 depending on instructor availability and scheduling of community sailing nights. Typically 2 hour lessons may be scheduled during our Open Community Sailing and our Weekly Race Nights. First come, first served based on the number of instructors we have available those nights. More information can be found here.
Mission
The Kitsap Sailing & Rowing Foundation believes that learning to sail and row teaches important life skills like teamwork, decision making, and appreciation of the natural environment. Competitive sailing and rowing requires tactical and strategic thinking and physical ability. With each experience on the water, young people gain self-confidence, self-esteem and a sense of camaraderie and accomplishment.
A Brief History
In 2006, a group of volunteers formed the Kitsap Sailing and Rowing Foundation to support youth programs in Kitsap County and since 2013 has partnered with the Port of Silverdale. The Kitsap Sailing Foundation continues to provide training, mentorship, and summer camp programs while helping the port acquire new sailboats and equipment and expanding its existing curriculum. Clam Island Rowing became its own non-profit as interest in rowing grew, so we now do business as Kitsap Sailing Foundation.
